Success!

In my last entry I mentioned that Kyl was organising a treasure hunt for our society. After an awful lot of running, to what seemed like the four edges of Eudoria, I finally found the treasure. There were three piles of money containing 1 PEC each. I contacted Kyl and he informed me that I'd won, and that I was the first person to win too. This meant a 250 PED prize was mine!

I was ecstatic and jumped around an awful lot. Later on I meant up with Kyl inconspicuously at the Biodome at Port Atlantis. He handed over the prize and congratulated me. I'm extremely grateful to Kyl for organising this, and with such great prizes too.

Unfortunately a few days later the news came that Kyl had left the society. I do wonder if this had something to do with the lack of enthusiasm for his treasure hunt, which only a couple of people in the society bothered to have a go at. It's a real shame to see him go - he's been a great help to the society and has helped me out personally on more than one occasion.

Sadly, this was followed by the news of the departure of Smoerble and then the departure of Kaboom. I wonder if the society is dying out. Whilst wondering this at Camp Phoenix I came across a recruitment drive by the British Bulldog Elite. I like their style, maybe I'll look them up if things don't improve in EuTropians. Here's me looking at their huge pet which they were using to pull people in:

So after some great news and then some sad news I must get back to the important task of the week - spending my winnings. I decided to spend 200 PED of the prize on a Gold Card to help protect my security here in Entropia. There's been a lot of other people who've had stuff stolen from them and I don't want that happening to me.

So that left me 50 PED to spend. I used it, together with some money from my account, to have a look at the area of MindForce. Many use it around here to do stuff like teleport and heal, so I thought I'd see how it all worked. I purchased the relevant tool, implant, chip and mind essence to get started with teleporting. It all work well, but I was left feeling disappointed. The range on the teleport was so short that it hardly seemed worth the cost. So for now I've sold all the equipment off and will put the money towards my new armor instead.

After a week of trying to get a full set of Shogun armor I finally succeeded. I decided not to keep the face guard since the markup was pretty high on it, and instead got a Paladin guard. The new set looks pretty cool too:

I've also had a successful week hunting and mining. The first notable event was a Large (XII) crude oil hit on a mining trip. This is the biggest single hit I've ever had and was worth around 40 PED. I also found a few other good deposits of enmatter which lead to a profit (yes, profit!) of nearly 7 PED. Ok, it's not huge, but it's a profit.

The next surprise came on a hunting trip with a group of people I met up with rather randomly. We hunted, amongst other things, large Feffoids, and got some great returns. I took around 36 PED in money, and a further 9 PED in goblin armor parts. This brought me a profit (again!) of 16 PED.

Finally, in another group hunt I looted an A103 amplifier worth 15 PED. Due to the group rules it actually went to another team member, but since I was alone (the others had died) at the time he kindly gave it to me. To repay the gesture I sold it back to him at the TT value since he needed an amplifier.

I finished out the week by trying to sell off a collection of goblin armor parts - my old set and the looted ones. It should get me in the region of 40 PED, which makes my account balance look fairly healthy.

New land discovered

This week began with the news of new lands being discovered on the west side of Amethera. I'd already explored much of the existing land, so this sounded like a fantastic opportunity to find some new places.

I started my trip at New Oxford and headed west. After wandering over some fairly uninteresting land I stumbled upon a jungle. It was a fascinating sight, and eventually I found a teleport at a place called Shinnok Jungle. From there I headed further west out of the jungle and across the seas. The sight of the new land was amazing - a sheer vertical cliff covered in snow. This was the first time I'd seen snow anywhere on Calypso.

I spent a fair amount of time in the southern part of this area, mainly due to a large number of nasty creatures. It took me some time to get to the Segna Forest teleport. Here I learned there was a further teleport in the north, so made headway to there. Upon arriving in Solfais Crater I discovered a large outpost building surrounded by the tents of the first explorers who came here.

After completing my explorations I was delighted to receive some more money from back home. I decided to go hunting in one of the land areas I'd found on my travels. The area I had found, one of the Amethera Outback Lands, had mature Exarosaurs and fairly young Cornundos. They seemed perfect for my current abilities, and I spent three days hunting them.

At the end of my hunting trip I tallied up my costs. I'd spent 88.55 PED in total - 56.14 on ammo and 32.41 on repairs. I'd managed to collect 54.67 PED in loot, 4.78 PED in materials and paint (which will sell for more), and a FAP worth 3.01 PED. Overall that left me 26.09 PED down, but that's not bad for a three day hunting trip. It certainly looks like my skills are improving.

On the return trip from hunting I headed to New Oxford. I'd heard there were some new shops there and I wanted to check them out. It took me a while to find them, since they were hidden underground - consequently I doubt I'll use them much. I'm not sure why the planners felt it necessary to make the layout so complex.

Above these shops I found a special shop selling designer clothes. The prices seemed ridiculous - in excess of 1000 PED for a jacket. I guess there must be a demand for limited edition designer items. In the rear of this store I discovered a catwalk, although I don't appear to make a very good model.

The shopping trip got me thinking about armor, though. I'm currently using Goblin armor, which although fine does limit my ability to defend against larger creatures. This isn't too much of an issue in my hunting, but it is sometimes problematic in my mining. After some looking around I discovered Shogun armor, which looked reasonably affordable and pretty decent in defensive capabilities. I'll start looking in the auction to see if I can pick some parts up.

I finished the weekend by looking at the treasure hunt that one of our society members, Kyl, is organising. The prize is 250 PED, but the challenge looks tough. I've made a start though, and it looks like it might be fun.

A group TP run and hunt

I've not done much recently, still due to lack of money. I spent some time hunting relatively weak creatures without my armor and rifle amplifier. This allowed me to improve my skills without wasting too much on repair costs. Needless to say, the looting was poor.

This evening a bunch of us helped do a teleport run from Twin Peaks to Fort Troy. It was good fun, with lots of hunting on the way. We eventually found some reasonably tough creatures like Armax Bull and Atrax.

It was good fun hanging out with the other society folk, even if I ended up wasting a lot of PED on ammo. We should do stuff like this more often.

I noticed that Jay-Jay is continuing to get really good finds at mining. I'm not sure how he does it - maybe he just spends a lot of time on mining. It seems to be paying off for him though.

Kyl, another guy in the soc, is organising a treasure hunt soon. I'm not sure what this involves, but it sounds like fun!

Time to get some rest, and wait for some more PEDs to arrive. One day I hope I'll become self-sufficient here...
